Homesteading
Lately, on Pinterest, I have seen many posts on homesteading or living off-grid. For those of you that are not familiar with the term, homesteading is living a self-sufficient lifestyle. A homesteader seems to get back to the basics of life. It includes trying to live without alot of the everyday conveniences that most of us live with each and every day. Most live on a farm where they raise animals for both milk and meat. They also grow all of their own vegetables. Many homesteaders cook on wood stoves, can like crazy, and make most if not all of their clothing.
In so many ways, I wish I could be happy with such a lifestyle. But, in all honesty, I am much too worldly. This is something I am NOT proud of. I would love to learn to be happy with a simpler way of life. But, oh what a huge change would have to come about in me. I mean really.... Do my kids really need another toy, pair of shoes, or coloring book? Cassie doesn't even like to color (as much as I'd like her too anyhow). And we all can relate to the over abundance of toys that litter our houses. Does my teenager really need another pair of jeans, different shade of nail polish, or another movie? Do I need to go to Wal-mart for the 3rd time this week? No! No! No! I long to have the feeling that I have what I need and to be happy with just that - what I need. Am I alone in feeling this way?
